MANHATTAN — The Moundridge girls were hoping to face three undefeated teams in the Class 2A State Basketball Tournament this week at Bramlage Coliseum.
It turned out one was enough.
The Wildcats ran into a buzzsaw on Wednesday as Olpe, which came in 23-0, raced its way to a 61-28 victory, ending MHS’ season at 20-4.
Olpe jumped out to a 17-4 first-quarter lead and the Wildcats simply couldn’t muster enough offense to keep pace.
Ashley Holler completed a tremendous career with 14 points to lead the Wildcats. Brianna Vogts led the winners with 20.
Olpe is one of three 24-0 teams in the semifinals, the others being Central Plains and Valley Falls. Hill City, 22-2, is the other semifinalist and it plays Central Plains on Friday, while either Olpe or Valley Falls will lose for the first time in the other semi.
