OTTAWA — McPherson College’s baseball team notched a pair of much-needed road victories on Friday in KCAC action against Ottawa University.
Mac, which had started conference play by going 0-4 against York College last weekend, scored 8-6 and 12-4 victories over the Braves to even their overall record at 11-11. The teams are playing two more games today as the Bulldogs are seeking a sweep.
The first game was a dandy as the Bulldogs pushed across two runs in the top of the ninth inning to break a 6-all tie.
The Bulldogs laced 13 hits, including two each by Lane Fleming, Dylan Fontenot, Evan Willow, Lucas Giesey and Shon Pinard. Ace Dylan Klava worked seven innings and fanned eight, with Blake Ware eventually winning the game in relief.
In Game 2, the Bulldogs’ sticks were again on fire with eight first-inning runs to key a 12-4 rout. Mac also scored four runs in the third.
All that offense made it easy for Colter Streck to pick up the win. The Bulldogs continued to pound the OU pitching staff with 12 hits, three by Klava, and two apiece by Trent Smith and Jackson Goodmiller.
McPherson High grad Aaron Marshall was 0 of 4 in the first game for OU, but pounded out a 3-for-3 second game.
