It was supposed to be a single, nine-inning baseball game.

However, McPherson College and Central Christian College needed 11 innings to determine a winner in their intracity college showdown Tuesday night.

It turned out to be McPherson College, which pushed across two runs in the top of the 11th for a 10-8 victory.

Central had stunned the Bulldogs by scoring three runs in the bottom of the ninth to force extras. Mac had led 7-0 and 8-4 before the Tigers scored a run in the eighth to set up their big ninth.

Lucas Giesey had three hits and drove in four runs to lead the Bulldogs. Evan Willow added three hits and two RBIs. Trent Smith, Reily Martin and Trevor Haycock all had two hits for Mac.

Kelby Landon and Laramie Lumley led Central with three hits apiece in the wildly entertaining game.

Blake Ware, who eventually put out in the fire in the ninth inning, wound up tossing three perfect innings of relief for the win. Doug Gove took the loss.

Mac is now 13-12 on the season and Central is 13-15.

The Bulldogs return to KCAC action this weekend hosting Saint Mary for a four-game series. This is a Saturday-Sunday set, with Saturday’s games at Grant Complex starting at 1 p.m., with Sunday’s action at 1 p.m. at Light Capital Diamond. The Bulldogs took three of four from Ottawa last weekend after going 0-4 to open KCAC play against York College.

The Tigers have a four-game home series with highly touted Dordt College beginning Friday.
