Baseball Tigers split with Dordt

Outstanding pitching by Kenith Smith and Doug Gove in Game 2 sparked Central Christian College’s baseball team to a 6-1 victory over Dordt College to earn a split of Friday’s doubleheader.

Smith allowed an unearned run over his five innings before Gove nailed it down with two innings of hitless relief.

Laramie Lumley, Clayton Cramer and Caleb Gorman all had two hits for the Tigers, who also received two RBIs from Nate Patterson.

Central had lost the opener 3-1 despite a tremendous pitching effort by the Tigers’ Andrew Hightower, who deserved a better fate. Other than Zane Howard’s homer, Central’s offense was held in check.

Central is now 14-16. The teams are playing two more games here today with a noon start at Tiger Stadium (Light Capital Diamond).
