Without having played a match yet — which it does today — the McPherson High boys tennis team has dropped to No. 2 in this week’s state rankings by the Kansas Tennis Coaches Association.

Wichita Collegiate jumped from No. 3 to No. 1 in Class 4A, with the Bullpups and Independence sliding down a spot each at No. 2 and No. 3, respectively.

McPherson High opens its season today hosting its first of two invitationals.

Topeka Hayden and Abilene round out the Top 5. DeSoto, Buhler and Winfield are others to watch.

Hesston is the No. 1 team in Class 3-2-1A. Rounding out the Top 5 are Conway Springs, Wichita Independent, Kansas City Christian and Central Plains. Others to watch are Sterling, Sacred Heart and Trinity Catholic.
