ANDALE — McPherson High’s girls jumped their way to a big night in the Andale Track and Field Relays on Friday, which was the team’s season opener.

The Bullpups’ Mandi Cooks (5-4) and Megan Pedersen (5-1) went 1-2 in the high jump to kick off the meet, while MHS had a 1-2-3 finish in the long jump with Amy Suenram (17-8 1/2), Elle Barrett (17-7 1/2) and Kenzie Goering (16-4 1/2). In the triple jump it was Barrett winning in 35-7, followed by Suenram (34-11 1/2) and Goering was fourth in 34-4.

According to MHS coach Jace Pavlovich, other highlight performers for the girls were Kamryn Collins (third in the 200, fifth in the 400) and Morgan Howard (fourth in the 100 high hurdles).

On the boys’ side individually, Devin Cape was second in the triple jump, Spenser Wine was third in the 110 hurdles, Andric McGill was third in the high jump, while Jared Ruth and Noah Jirgens were fifth in the shot put and discus, respectively.

“We had a great night running in wind chill of 33 degrees,” Pavlovich said. “I was proud of how our kids competed against some good competition in some tough weather. We had some early PRs right off of the bat.”

No team scores were listed.

The Bullpups are right back in action on Monday as they head to Newton and then have another meet on Friday in Marion.
