McPherson College’s baseball team seems to play its best on Fridays.
Once again this week, the Bulldogs came away with a Friday sweep when they knocked off Friends twice, 12-7 and 5-4.
Mac is now 8-10 in the KCAC and has moved within a game of .500 on the season at 18-19 after going 8-44 last season.
In Game 1, the Bulldogs jumped out to a 6-0 lead after two innings and later strung together three straight innings of two runs each.
Bulldog ace Dylan Klava pitched six shutout innings before departing, but the bullpen was shaky in the seventh by giving up all seven runs. Matthew Green brought some order to things by throwing 2 1/3 innings of shutout relief.
Mac pounded out 14 hits, including four by Evan Willow, who also had three RBIs. Jackson Goodmiller had three hits and Lucas Giesey drove in three. Klava and Reily Martin added two hits.
The Bulldogs walked it off in Game 2 as Goodmiller’s RBI single scored Bryce Strecker with the winning run in the bottom of the ninth for the victory. It was his third hit of the game.
The Bulldogs showed a lot of grit in this one, overcoming a 4-0 deficit with two runs in the sixth and two in the seventh. Martin was 3 for 4 with a homer and two RBIs, while Dylan Fontenot also drove in two runs. Blake Ware was the winner in relief.
The teams hook up for two more games today starting at 3:00.
