WINFIELD — The McPherson High 1-2 duo of Megan Cutting and Katie Wurm continues to propel the Bullpup girls swimming team to rarefied heights.

The Bullpups, for the third straight meet, turned in a high finish, as they were third out of 10 teams on Tuesday in the Winfield Invitational.

Cutting won two more events, the 200 freestyle and 100 butterfly. Wurm had a pair of strong second-place finishes in the 200 freestyle and 100 backstroke.

Combine those finishes with a lot of consistent performances from the other swimmers and the Bullpups were again in team contention.

“The girls had a very solid performance today,” MHS coach Abby Bradstreet said. “We faced some tough competition, but still placed extremely well in all of our events. Megan Cutting had an outstanding performance today, placing first in both of her individual events while Katie Wurm placed second in both of her individual events.”

Bradstreet was pleased with her relays.

“Our 200 medley relay and 200 freestyle relay both placed third,” she said. “Among our many personal-best times today, Monet Kunde, Carola Galletti and Claire Wiens all took off time in both of their individual events. Even though we had a few snags today, the girls should be so proud of how far they have come in the season already. We have already reached so many of our personal and team goals in only the third meet, so it is exciting to check those off and start making new ones.”

The Bullpups jump right back into the pool on Thursday at Salina South.
