Swather golfers 6th in season debut

WELLINGTON — Hesston High’s golf team opened its season on Thursday by finishing in the middle of the pack in the Wellington Invitational.

The Swathers took sixth place out of 12 teams with a 360 in the windy conditions. Andover won the title with a 319, followed by Rose Hill with 329. Also finishing ahead of the Swathers were Augusta (336), Wellington (340) and Andover Central (355).

Trey Denno led the Swathers with an 86, good for 16th. Other scores were Tanner Bachman (90), Grant Brenneman (90), Jordan Roth (94), Trevor Koehn (96) and Tyler Bachman (100).

Only four golfers were able to break 80 in the tough conditions, led by Jacob Wilson of Andover with a 76, which included a 36 on his back nine.
