NORTH NEWTON — McPherson College’s softball team appeared to be on its way to a first-game victory over Bethel College on Wednesday.

But the Threshers stunned Mac with two runs in the final inning to snatch the victory away, 3-2.

The game was tied at 1-all when Mac pushed across a run in the top of the seventh for a 2-1 lead. But it couldn’t hold it as the Threshers cobbled together the winning rally.

Katie Holmes and Azaria Romero drove in runs for the Bulldogs. Sydney Lang was a tough-luck loser as she certainly pitched well enough to win.

A three-run fifth inning broke open a close second game, which was won by Bethel 6-3. The Bulldogs were down 6-0 before Kayla Bourgeois crushed a three-run homer in the final inning.

Mac is now 1-9 in the KCAC and 6-30 overall.
