McPherson College’s women’s softball team got back on the winning side during Saturday’s KCAC split with Sterling College.

The Bulldogs recorded their second KCAC win of the season with a 7-6 first-game decision. The Bulldogs rocketed to a 7-3 lead before fending off a Sterling rally in the final inning. Sydney Lang, however, silenced the threat and finished the game with 11 strikeouts.

Shelby Maycumber, Brittany Childs and Azaria Romero all drove in two runs, Childs with a home run. Maycumber, Childs, Lang and Emily Davis all had two hits as Mac pounded out 11.

Game 2 was a wild one as the Bulldogs stormed back from a big deficit to get the game into extra innings, but the Warriors scored six times in the top of the eighth inning and went on for a 16-11 victory.

The Warriors belted 23 hits in the game.

Mac countered with 13 of its own. Katie Holmes had a monster game going 4 for 5, while Davis and Maycumber contributed two. Holmes and Davis were credited with two RBIs.

The Bulldogs are now 2-10 in the KCAC and 7-31 overall. They head out on the road Tuesday to take on Southwestern, then are home Saturday to take on Oklahoma Wesleyan.
