It was a dramatic split for Central Christian College’s softball team against Southwestern Christian here on Saturday as the Lady Tigers overcame a tough 3-1 first-game loss to win Game 2 in walk-off fashion, 3-2.
Central had led the second game 2-1 until the seventh, when the Eagles cobbled together a rally to tie it. CCC, however, came right back in the bottom of the inning.
Kasi Kraus had the game-winning hit, which scored Constance Baker, who had doubled.
Kraus and Sydney Nelson had two hits apiece for CCC, which received a nice pitching performance from Mandy Jacques.
Central had lost the opener in a fine pitchers duel. Kraus threw for Central and it was scoreless until the fifth when Southwestern Christian scored two runs. The Eagles made it 3-0 in the seventh before Baker drove in Jacques with the only CCC run.
The Tigers, who have gone 2-2 against the Eagles this year, are now 8-27, which matches their win total of last year and they still have 14 games left. They make a long trip on Tuesday to South Dakota to play Dakota State University.
