McPherson High’s boys JV tennis team flashed its depth on Tuesday in capturing its own tournament after a shootout with several teams.
The Bullpups, despite winning three of four divisions, barely outlasted Buhler 28-25, with Derby (23) and Goddard (21) making a push. Salina South (18), Newton (14), Hutchinson (8) and the McPherson second entry (8) completed the field.
MHS won both doubles divisions with Patrick Munsey-Jace Kinnamon playing No. 1 and Trey Hett-Thomas Smith playing No. 2. Both teams were 4-0 on the day.
Price Kramer won the No. 2 singles division with a 4-0 record, with Lorenzo Cornelius going 0-4 at No. 1 singles.
MHS' second team didn’t have a full complement. Aaron Carlson was 1-3 for fourth at No. 1 singles. At No. 1 doubles, Isaac Duren-Tyler Burns were 0-4 for eighth, while Alex Milleson-Zach Anderson were 1-3 for seventh at No. 2.
