Big day for Hesston thinclads

HILLSBORO — The Hesston High boys track and field team pulled away from Class 2A power Berean Academy 148-135 to take first place Tuesday in the Elyria Christian School Invitational hosted by Hillsboro, while the Swather girls shared first with Berean as both teams scored 117 points.

Individual winners for the Hesston boys were Parker Roth (100), Toby McCoy (200), Jon Weber (400), Austin Bollinger (800), Hunter Heddin (3,200) and Mitchell Martin (triple jump). Hesston also won two relays.

Taylor Valdez had a double for the girls by winning the two short sprints, while Kylie Brenneman (400), Lydia Enge (shot) and Olivia Brubacher (long jump) also triumphed, as did two relays.

The Elyria boys were fourth out of five teams with 15 points. Caleb Froese had a second in the 200. The ECS girls scored nine points, with Misha Redenbaugh placing second in the 3,200.
