An Inman youth may be facing charges for a hit-and-run fatality.

The youth, age 16, failed to stop at a stop sign on Comanche Road southeast of McPherson and drove into the path of two oncoming motorcycles who were heading south on Eighth Avenue.

The driver of one of the motorcycles, Steven Goering, also of Inman, was airlifted by Lifeteam to a Wesley Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries, according to the Hutchinson News. Goering was 62 years old.

The second motorcycle was driven by Goering's son, who was able to avoid the oncoming car and come to a safe stop.

“[The youth] made a statement that he got scared and didn't know what to do so he drove home,” said McPherson County's Sheriff Capt. Joe Hoffman, as quoted in the Hutchinson News.

The case is being turned over to the McPherson County Attorney's Office.
