Softball Vikings improve to 7-3

HESSTON — Smoky Valley was twice a runaway winner on Friday in softball action against Hesston.

The Vikings needed only three innings for a 19-1 first-game victory, with the Swathers’ run coming on a homer by Emma Krehbiel.

Viking batters on fire were Teagan Miller (two hits, three RBIs, four runs), Haeli Maas (two runs, two stolen bases), Kelsie Anderson (two hits, two runs, five RBIs), Ally Karber (three hits, two RBIs), Megan Sample (two hits, one a double) and Halle McClure (two runs).

Sample was the winner.

The Vikings scored in only two innings of the second game, but what innings they were. They scored six runs in the second and 10 in the fifth for a 16-0 victory.

Leaders were Anderson (two hits, two runs), Katie Bellah (two hits, two runs, two RBIs), Addison Haiden (two hits, two RBIs), Jordan Otto (two RBIs) and Kira Haxton (two runs). Otto pitched a three-hit shutout to run her record to 3-0.

The Vikings are now 7-3 and host Halstead Tuesday. The Swathers are now 0-8 and next play on Tuesday at Hoisinton.
