Central Christian College’s baseball season came to an end here Tuesday with a numbing 8-6 loss to KCAC member Kansas Wesleyan.
The Tigers finished the year 18-35 after an 11-3 start. However, they made great strides as they doubled their victory total from last year.
Central appeared to be on its way to a feel-good ending, leading 5-4 going into the ninth inning. But KW cobbled together a four-run final frame and the Tigers countered with a run in the bottom of the ninth.
Shomari Cann’s three hits led CCC. Kenny Cordova and Kelby Landon added two apiece. Zane Howard, who had a tremendous individual season, had CCC’s loudest blow, a homer. He finished the year with 11 bombs.
With only six seniors on the team, the Tigers should be primed to continue their improvement next year. They will have to shore up their pitching, as the hitting was solid for the most part.
CCC (6) — Gorman 4-0-0-0, Patterson 3-1-0-0, Greenbeck 4-0-1-0, Howard 4-1-1-1, Lumbley 4-1-0-1, Cordova 5-1-2-0, Landon 3-1-2-0, Romeu 0-2-0-0, Cann 4-0-3-1, Boedeker 4-0-1-1.
