LINDSBORG — McPherson College’s women’s softball team, in last place in the KCAC, put a scare into Bethany College in Game 1 on Wednesday.

Bethany, 13-3 in the KCAC coming into the game, needed a huge rally in the eighth inning to win the opener, 5-4.

Mac led 2-1 through six innings, but the Swedes scored a run in the seventh to tie it and force extra softball. The Bulldogs went back ahead with two runs in the eighth, but the Swedes rallied with three in the bottom of the inning for the pulsating walk-off victory.

Alyssa Jarman led Bethany with three hits including the game-winner, a single to score pinch-runner Erin Newport. Courtney Davis had kept the Swedes alive with a two-out double to make it a 4-3 game and Kelsie Henzie singled to score Davis to tie the game.

Katie Holmes drove in three runs for Mac.

Game 2 went the Swedes’ way, 6-2. A three-run fifth inning gave Bethany the breathing room it needed to improve to 15-3 in the KCAC and a sweep of its Senior Night.

Anna Crawford drove in two runs for the Swedes. Six Bulldogs had one hit each.

Mac is now 3-15 in the KCAC and 8-36 overall, while the Swedes are 25-20 overall as they played a brutal schedule that prepared them well for the KCAC.

The Bulldogs host Tabor on Saturday, then Friends on Tuesday to wrap up the regular season. The Swedes wrap up the regular season on the road, Saturday at Friends and Wednesday at Saint Mary.
