HOISINGTON — Brett Heitschmidt’s terrific second-game pitching performance on Friday against Hoisington enabled Smoky Valley to gain a split of the baseball doubleheader.
Heitschmidt threw a four-hit shutout as the Vikes captured a 6-0 victory after the game had been scoreless through the first five innings. Smoky Valley scored four runs in the sixth and two in the seventh.
The Vikes had only four hits themselves, but took advantage of four errors.
Hoisington had won Game 1 6-1, sparked by five runs over the third and fourth innings. Heitschmidt was 2 for 3 and Garrett Forsberg had a double. Ben Weldy pitched well in defeat.
Smoky Valley is now 3-6 and plays Tuesday at always-strong Pratt.
