Thanks to an unforseen scheduling logjam, Central Christian College’s softball team was able to swell its record here Saturday.
The Lady Tigers and Haskell wound up having to play an exhausting four games, that after Central had lost two games to York College here on Friday, 8-7 and 7-1.
But Saturday, Central was undefeated as it’s now 12-31 on the year.
The Lady Tigers won the morning session by scores of 9-5 and 9-2. After a five-inning 16-8 victory in Game 1 during the afternoon, Central completed the sweep with an exciting 7-6 victory that took eight innings to complete. Cristina Insua put a cap on the weekend with the game-winning hit that sent all CCC fans home happy.
“What a day,” CCC coach Mark Ritchhart said. “Our Lady Tiger team battled the whole day. Things didn't come easy for them much of the day, but when we needed it done, someone on the team would make a crucial play, execute a clutch hit or give an inspiring message to spur on the group. Everyone played today and each player had their hand in the victories. It sure felt good winning the last four home games of the year for the seniors' memory and to build confidence for all the returnees. The CCC softball future will benefit from days like today because of the obstacles they turned into a drive to succeed."
Central wraps up its regular season next weekend by playing two games on Friday at Tabor, then two on Saturday in Langston, Okla.
