The KCAC men’s tennis championship had a dramatic impact on the national rankings this week by the NAIA.
Bethany College outlasted McPherson College 5-4 on Saturday in McPherson to win the conference title after both schools had started the day 7-0 in KCAC play. The Swedes had to overcome a 3-1 deficit in the match and won the final two matches of the day for the title.
Bethany jumped five spots to No. 16 in the poll, while the Bulldogs fell eight spots from No. 12 to No. 20.
“It was great to jump up in the rankings after our big win this weekend. McPherson looks to be a bit underrated in this new poll," Bethany head coach Tony Swiantek said. "Our players know just how tough they are, so I am sure we will be ready for another classic matchup if we face off with them again this weekend."
The KCAC Championships are scheduled for this weekend in Wichita, and the Swedes and Bulldogs are more than likely going to be playing in the finals.
