Swedes sweep Mac in KCAC baseball doubleheader

Bethany College kept McPherson College’s baseball team on its late-season slide by sweeping a pair of KCAC games here Thursday.

The Bulldogs were at one time 18-19 on the season, but are now 19-34.

In Game 1, it was 2-2 until the fourth when the Swedes scored four times. Bethany then scored four runs in the seventh, five in the eighth and four in the ninth for a 19-6 victory.

Daniel Blanco-Perez hit a pair of homers for the Swedes and Benardo Bonificaio drove in six runs. Evan Willow had three hits for Mac.

Mac’s losing streak reached 10 straight in Game 2 in a 5-2 loss. The Bulldogs led 1-0 until the fourth when the Swedes scored twice, then added three runs in the fifth.

Bonifacio completed a great day by going 3 for 4. Blanco-Perez drove in two runs and had a homer. Richard Hildago Jr., whose father was a former Major League player with three teams and had 171 career home runs, also went yard.

Mac was held to five hits by five different players.

The Swedes improved to 24-29 overall and 14-20 in the KCAC. Mac is now 9-25 in the KCAC with 15 losses in the last 16 conference games.

The teams wrap up the regular season here Saturday with two more games.
