CANTON — Two Canton-Galva eighth-grade girls are smashing some longstanding school records, a couple of them that had lasted more than 35 years.

Emma Ruddle has eclipsed school records in the 100 hurdles, 200 hurdles and 400 meters. Her time in the 100 is 16.31, the 200 time is 30.01 and the 400 time is 1:04.5 (formerly held by Susan Wedel in 1980).

Tia Moddlemog has broken the triple jump record (she went 33-8 1/2) and the high jump record (4-10). The high jump record dated back to 1980, also by Wedel.

The 4 x 100 relay team of Ruddle, Moddlemog, Jayci Mastre and Carissa Klatt has set a new mark (56.32) as has the sprint medley team that includes the same four (2:07.01).
