BUHLER — McPherson High’s JV tennis team closed out its season on Saturday by outlasting Buhler to win the Crusaders’ Invitational.
The two league rivals battled until the end, with MHS scoring 23 points to Buhler’s 20. Valley Center was right there with 19 points, while other totals were Hesston (16) and Hutchinson (2).
The No. 2 entries led the way for the Bullpups. Aaron Carlson was 3-0 at No. 2 singles for first, while the No. 2 doubles team of Thomas Smith and Lorenzo Cornelius also won its division by winning four straight matches.
Jace Kinnamon was 1-2 for third at No. 1 singles, with the top doubles team of Trey Hett and Price Kramer splitting its four matches to take third.
“I felt like we played much smarter than in previous matches,” MHS coach Tyler Brown said. “We did a better job of keeping the ball in play and waiting for the right ball to move on. Overall, I think we focused on an effective ball rather than an impressive ball. We are very pleased with the JVs’ season. Great way to finish it.”
