McPherson College’s baseball team tied the school record for victories in a season here Sunday when it won the first game of a doubleheader with Bethany College in dramatic fashion.

After having lost two games to the Swedes on Thursday to run their losing streak to 12 straight games, the Bulldogs broke through with a 12-11 victory in Sunday’s lidlifter.

Mac had to overcome an 11-5 deficit for the victory as it shockingly scored seven runs in the ninth to stun its county rival.

Dylan Klava was 3 for 5 with three RBIs to lead Mac. Reily Martin, Kyle McDonald and Dylan Fontenot all collected two hits.

The loss spoiled an amazing game by Bethany’s Daniel Blanco-Perez, who hit three homers and drove in five runs.

With the victory, Mac won its 20th game of the season to equal the most in school history. The Bulldogs finished 20-35, though at one point they were 18-19 before hitting the skids. They were 10-26 in KCAC action.

In what turned out to be Mac’s last game of the season, the Bulldogs lost 8-3 to the Swedes, who are headed to the KCAC Tournament as they claimed the last spot in the event.

Blanco-Perez continued to terrorize Mac pitching with two more hits and two runs scored. Joel Quinones also had two hits and Raymond Vazquez knocked in two runs as did Chase Phillips, who hit a home run.

For the weekend, Blanco-Perez was 12 of 17 with six home runs and 10 RBIs as he’s a shoo-in for KCAC Player of the Week.

No Mac player had more than one hit.

Bethany closed KCAC play with a 15-21 record and will take a 25-30 overall record into the KCAC Tournament.
