GALVA — The day started well for Canton-Galva’s baseball team on Tuesday against Bennington, but then it went south.
The Eagles jumped out to a 4-0 first-inning lead over the Bulldogs in Game 1, but it was all Bennington after that in a 12-4 success.
Ethan Loyd, Devyn Elkins, Zach Snow, Reed Wiens and Collin Reissig all had two hits for the Eagles, who littered the bases throughout the game, but couldn’t get the clutch hit in the final six innings to do more damage.
Canton-Galva appeared to be on its way to a split, but the Bulldogs stunned the Eagles with five runs in the seventh inning to pull out a 7-5 victory.
Wiens was the tough-luck losing pitcher as he pitched a tremendous game, but six errors behind him hurt. Hunter Pearson was on fire with three hits to lead the C-G offense.
The Eagles remain at home on Thursday at Lincoln-Sylvan Grove comes to town.
