Hesston and Buhler combined to host the 36-hole I-135 Golf Tournament on Tuesday, with the first 18 played at Hesston and the second 18 at McPherson’s Turkey Creek Course.
It didn’t seem to matter to Maize South star Wells Padgett which course he played as he lit it up at both.
Padgett, one of the top high school golfers in Kansas, shot matching 67s to win medalist honors at both courses. He was 7-under-par on the day.
He led Maize South to a victory at Hesston during the morning session as the Mavericks shot a 301. Collegiate was second with 307 and also in the hunt in the 17-team field were Garden City (309), Andover (310), Rose Hill (310), Sacred Heart (311), Augusta (313), Andale (316) and Trinity Academy (316) as the upper-division teams were tightly bunched.
Hesston was 10th with a 324. Swather scores were Trey Denno (78), Grant Brenneman (79), Trevor Koehn (88), Tanner Bachman (90), Kitt Regier (95) and Tyler Bachman (97).
Padgett’s second 67 helped Maize South to a two-shot win over Rose Hill in the afternoon session at The Creek, 305-307. Andover was third with 315 and Collegiate was the other team in contention with 317.
Hesston was 10th with a 330.
Jordan Roth led the Swathers with a 78. Other scores were Brenneman (81), Tanner Bachman (84), Denno (87), Koehn (94) and Dylan Prouty (104).
