GREAT BEND — Bethany College outlasted arch-rival Kansas Wesleyan 3-2 on Wednesday in the first round of the KCAC Postseason Softball Tournament.

The Swedes scored all their runs in the fourth inning. In a shocking development, No. 8 seed York routed No. 1 Friends 10-1 in the opening round, which means the Swedes take on the Panthers this morning in the semifinals instead of the expected matchup with the Falcons.

KW led 2-0 early and that seemed to be more than enough for its outstanding pitcher Casey Zook, but the Swedes charged in the fourth inning and never gave up the lead. Courtney Davis’ two-run double capped the three-run inning and Swede pitchers Kiersten Stolley and Jasmine Stewart made it stand up.

Ottawa 4, Saint Mary 3

Bethany 3, Kansas Wesleyan 2

Oklahoma Wesleyan 11, Sterling 3

York 10, Friends 1

There are eight games scheduled for today. The finals will be played on Friday.
