WINFIELD — McPherson High’s Jacob Lackey was working on the driving range long after practice was over Wednesday night at Turkey Creek.

It obviously paid off in Thursday’s Winfield Invitational.

Lackey toured the first nine in 35 and kept it together for the most part on the back nine for a 39. His 74 was good for medalist honors, one shot ahead of Coffeyville’s Logan Vacca.

It was Lackey’s second title of the season, having won the season-opening El Dorado Invitational.

Paced by Lackey, MHS was third out of 13 teams with a 337 total. Ahead of the Bullpups were Chanute (326) and Arkansas City (327).

MHS’ Drew Pyle tied for 11th with an 86. Other Bullpup scores were CJ Steiner (88), Casey Cheek (89), Kaden Warren (90) and Colten Geren (105).

MHS competes in the league meet Monday, also to be contested at Winfield.
