The McPherson American Legion is hosting a dedication ceremony Tuesday evening for the new mural honoring veterans who served this country during times of war.

Post Commander Gerald Garcia invites the public to attend the dedication for the mural that was made possible by two separate $10,000 donations from the McPherson Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Mingenback Foundation.

McPherson's Sherwin-Williams manager Dave Cahoone also donated over $1,200 of special paint that was needed to prepare the side of the building for the mural, which was completed by local painters Monte and Jason Schropp.

Terry Hedlund, owner of Hedlund Electric and a Vietnam War Veteran himself, provided supplies, installed the lighting, and hired the artist who designed the mural. Naomi Ullum, Amanda Shaw, and Stevie Penn of Creative Professional Services, Inc., in Hutchinson created the 12'X56' mural. McPherson Street Department employees managed the installation.

The new American Legion mural honors veterans from the American Civil War until the present time and is positioned on the wall in such a way as to allow additional artwork for future conflicts as they may arise.

The dedication for the American Legion mural will begin Tuesday evening at 6:00 at 401 N. Main in McPherson.

For those who registerd, a free dinner catered by Bill Froese will follow the dedication ceremony, A short program and slide presentation will follow the dinner.
