Softball regionals told for MHS, area schools

McPherson High’s softball team heads to Hays on Tuesday for a Class 4A Division I regional that includes no teams with a winning record.

MHS (7-13) takes on Ulysses (7-11) in the 3 p.m. game. Hays (8-10) plays Buhler (0-18) at 4:30.

The championship game is at 6:00.

Here are the pairings for the area schools:

• Smoky Valley — The Vikings go to Hoisington on Tuesday where they’ll take on the host school at 4:30 p.m. in the Class 4A Division II regional. Smoky Valley is 9-9, with Hoisington 14-6.

In the other half of the draw, Haven (19-1) is the heavy favorite as it takes on Nickerson (0-16) at 3:00. The championship game is set for 6:00.

• Moundridge and Canton-Galva head to Cottonwood Falls for a 2-1A regional.

On Monday, Moundridge (6-11) plays Lebo-Waverly (0-2) at 4 p.m. At 5:45, Canton-Galva (5-11) goes up against Hillsboro (3-15).

If Canton-Galva wins, it plays Chase County (13-5) at 3 p.m. Tuesday. If Moundridge wins, it plays Northern Heights (14-6) at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, with the championship game to follow at 6.

• Inman and Little River will be involved in a 2-1A event at Salina, hosted by Sacred Heart.

The two schools actually are matched in a play-in game at 4:30 p.m. Monday at Inman. The Teutons are 4-15 and Little River is 21-4.

The winner takes on Ell-Saline (19-1) at 3 p.m. Tuesday. In the other half of the draw, Ellinwood (15-3) takes on Sacred Heart (12-8) at 4:30. The title game follows at 6.

The Class 3A regional at Gypsum that includes Hesston has not been released.
