SALINA — McPherson Middle School’s track and field teams completed their seasons on Tuesday with the Pioneer League Meet, which was highlighted by the MMS seventh-grade girls taking first place with 130 points.

“This team has a little more all-around talent, but their effort clearly defines the efforts of all four teams Tuesday,” MMS coach TJ Jackson said. “No matter what we did before, we always stress getting better each day. With that attitude we went into the league meet and nearly every thrower PR'd, eighth-grade boys PR’d in nearly every relay and many more. We couldn't keep up with how many were setting new records for themselves. We competed against 5 and 6A schools and did quite well being the smallest school there. Our kids represented McPherson very well and their community should be proud of them.”

The seventh-grade girls were paced by Grace Pyle’s double in the shot and 200 hurdles. Lexi Kynaston won the high jump, Kassidy Beam the 800 and two relays also won, with the 4 x 100 lowering its own school record.

The eighth-grade girls were led by wins in the high jump by Andrea Sweat and Laynee Schroeder in the long jump.

Cody Stufflebean doubled in the shot and discus for the eighth-grade boys with some monster marks. The seventh-grade boys’ lone gold came from Hayden Wallace in the shot.

Jackson said it was a great year for his team and he had a lot of help.

“I want to say a special thank you to coach Frey and coach Martin, who will be moving on to new positions. Coach Frey will move on to take the head cross country job at the high school, and coach Martin and his family will be moving to another district. We wish them the best of luck in their future and we will miss them.”
