McPherson High’s girls swimming team can’t wait for Saturday’s AVCTL Championships at El Dorado, which will consist of Division II, III and IV schools.

“I have been looking forward to the league meet all season,” MHS coach Abby Bradstreet said. “I have such a talented group of girls and know they will be successful at this meet, but most of all I want them to have fun and to see how much their hard work has paid off all season.”

In addition to the Bullpups, other teams are Andover, Andover Central, Wichita Collegiate, El Dorado, Maize South, Winfield and Rose Hill.

“The downfall of this is we have not seen these teams very much this season and this is probably the hardest AVCTL league to be in,” Bradstreet said. “Maize South has a tremendous amount of talent and Andover and Winfield have been solid all season due to the size of their teams. We will also be missing our Smoky Valley High girls Shea Cook and Haylee Herman, as they are not allowed to compete with our team at league.”

The Bullpups have finished in the upper division of every meet this season except for one.

“Our goal is to finish in the Top 3 and I think this is definitely something we can accomplish,” Bradstreet said. “We are working towards dropping our relay times and hopefully will have some first-place finishes throughout the meet. A few girls are also hoping to drop their times enough to qualify for the state meet and a couple are working towards MHS school records.  No matter what happens, I am so proud of these girls and cannot wait to watch them swim.  The hard work is done, now it's time to go out there, swim and have some fun.”

Meet time is set for 11 a.m.
