WICHITA — Hesston High’s Grant Dahlsten and Garrett Roth left little doubt they were the best doubles team in Class 3-2-1A.

The Swather tandem roared to the championship on Saturday without losing a set, completing their quest with a decisive 6-1, 6-3 victory over Central Plains’ Brady Rugan and Devin Ryan.

That followed a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Dylan Hutchins and Bo Hess of Scott City in the semifinals.

The Hesston seniors capped their careers with a 28-4 season.

The Swathers, who had been ranked No. 1 most of the year, wound up taking second as a team as Central Plains repeated its regional victory of last week. The Oilers scored 41 points to 29 for Hesston, which also received a ninth from the doubles team of Kendrick Weaver and Jorge Morales, along with a 12th from Daniel Holthus in singles.

Only Morales is back next year as the Swathers were a senior-dominated team. Hesston had defeated Central Plains 5-4 in a dual match earlier this season.

In addition to second in doubles, Central Plains also had a third in singles and a fifth in doubles. Three of the four singles semifinalists came out of the Hesston regional and the same can be said for doubles.

Wichita Independent was third with 25 points. Sacred Heart’s Stratton Brown completed a 32-0 season by routing Wichita Independent’s Wonjoon Cho in the singles final, 6-2, 6-1.
