HOLCOMB — A lot of eyes will be on Smoky Valley sophomore long distance ace Calvin Shannon this weekend in Wichita.
Shannon qualified for the Class 4A State Track and Field Meet in four events on Friday during the regionals, winning two of them.
Shannon won the 800 (2:04.1) and 1,600 (4:35.8), while taking second in the 3,200 (10:23.9).
Logan Windholz will be joining his teammate in the 1,600 after taking fourth Friday.
Shannon, Windholz, Carter Couchman and Vins Berggren advanced in the 4 x 800 relay, nabbing the fourth and final spot.
The Viking girls mostly qualified in relays, getting three teams in.
The 4 x 100 team that was third includes Meredith Galloway, Maggie Lambert, Allison Rose and Amanda Behanna. The 4 x 400 team, which also was third, includes Galloway, Lambert, Rose and Kate Deterding. The 4 x 800 team, which was a regional champion, includes Deterding, Rose, Katie Adam and Sophia Peterson.
Behanna was the 100 meter regional champion and Lambert advanced in the 300 hurdles, taking second.
