ULYSSES — McPherson High’s Jacob Lackey and Casey Cheek shot 83 and 85, respectively, in the Class 4A State Golf Tournament on Monday.
Lackey, a regional medalist, was 4-over-par through 10 holes, but he encountered some trouble on the back nine with a triple-bogey and a couple of doubles.
Cheek got off to a slow start, 6-over after five holes, but steadied himself somewhat. It took an 80 to earn a medal.
Hays won the team title with a 312, while AVCTL Division III member Rose Hill was second with 315. Wichita Collegiate earned the third plaque with a 318.
Chanute’s Clete Carlson was the medalist with a 74, winning a playoff from Wamego’s Cooper Spears. Rose Hill’s Parker Austin and Abilene’s Marcus Willey were one shot off the lead.
