Hesston golfers earn 2nd at state

SALINA — Hesston High’s consistency propelled it to a second-place finish Monday in the Class 3A State Golf Tournament at Salina Muni.

The Swathers’ highest finisher was Grant Brenneman, who was 16th with an 81. But it was Hesston’s ability to have a pack of scores that led it to a 334 total, five shots back of Fredonia, which came in at 329.

Sabetha earned the third plaque with a 335 on a day that was punctuated by rain.

Other Swather scores that counted were Tanner Bachman (83), Trey Denno (83) and Jordan Roth (87).

Also competing for Hesston were Trevor Koehn (88) and Tyler Bachman (95).

Caney Valley’s Troy Watson was the medalist with a 74, two shots better than Syracuse’s Ira Kullot. Watson shot a 1-under-par 34 on the front ine to key his championship round.
