Bulldog thinclads set for nationals

McPherson College’s track and field teams should have several candidates for All-American honors during the NAIA National Championships that begin Thursday in Gulf Shores, Ala..

The Bulldogs’ Art Hop is the No. 3-ranked pole vaulter going into the meet, while Chris Linnin and Brandt Wolters are fifth in the long jump and javelin, respectively.

Another Bulldog with Top 8 aspirations is triple jumper Marlon Clayton, who is rated No. 10 in the country going in.

Also competing for the Bulldogs are Hunter Sury and J’Moi Penn in the 100, Ronnie Floyd in the 400 hurdles and the 4 x 100 relay team consists of Sury, Penny, Floyd and Clayton.

The Mac women will be taking two participants. McPherson College Female Athlete of the Year Rea Samuels has qualified in both the 100 and 200 meters where she ranks 11th and 12th, respectively.

Jasmine Helms is in the Top 20 at this point in the triple jump at No. 18.
