How many times have we heard this when it comes to state competition, no matter the sport?

McPherson vs. Miege.

That’s the pairing at 5 p.m. Friday in the semifinals of the Class 4-1A Final Four Soccer Tournament at Hummer Sports Park in Topeka.

The Bullpups have the best overall record of the four teams in the field at 15-2-1, while Miege is 11-6-2.

In the other semi at 7 p.m., DeSoto (14-3-2) goes up against Wichita Trinity Academy (14-3-0).

The third-place game is set for noon on Saturday, while the championship game has a 2 p.m. start.

MHS advanced to the big show on Thursday by ending Topeka Hayden’s title reign with a 4-2 victory. Wichita Trinity became the other representative from this region with a 3-2 success against Hays.

Miege was the most impressive winner of the day with a 5-0 rout of Spring Hill. DeSoto got past Louisburg, 3-1.

McPherson High made it to the finals last year, losing 1-0 to Hayden.
