GULF SHORES, Ala. — McPherson College has its first All-American of the 2016 NAIA National Track and Field Championships.

Freshman Brandt Wolters on Thursday took third place in the javelin to earn All-American status.

Wolters, who was leading the competition early on, threw a school-record 203-1 3/4. He was right there as the winning mark of David Barnett of Carroll College was 204-6 1/2, which came on his final throw. Pancho Saldana of Eastern Oregon barely nipped Wolters for second with 203-2 1/2.

Wolters’ best throw came on his first attempt.

The Bulldogs’ 4 x 100 men’s relay team just missed earning All-American honors, finishing in ninth. Members were J’moi Penn, Marlon Clayton, Ronnie Floyd and Hunter Sury as they ran 41.83.
