WICHITA — McPherson High sophomore Elle Barrett has hit the daily double.

Barrett, who won the Class 4A long jump on Friday to earn an automatic spot on to the MHS Wall of Fame, updated her resume today by winning her second gold medal of the weekend in the triple jump at Wichita State’s Cessna Stadium.

Just as in the long jump, Barrett’s winning 38-4 3/4 mark in the triple jump was achieved on her first attempt.

Teammate Amy Suenram was right behind, going 37-8 1/4 to give the Bullpups a rare 1-2 finish. Suenram earlier was fourth in the long jump.

Add in Mandi Cooks' win in the high jump on Friday and MHS won all three state jumping events.

Earlier today, MHS’ Morgan Howard took sixth in the 100 hurdles with a time of 16.06.

The event closed the books on a great meet for the MHS girls. They are in third place after 10 events with 48 points, with Andale (58 1/3) and Baldwin (48 1/2) ahead of them. Andover Central is at 47 through the 100 meters.
