WICHITA — Moundridge’s Peri Lange left her competition in the dust this afternoon to win the Class 2A 300 hurdles, her second gold medal of the day.

Lange ran a 44.82 to easily win over Meade’s Jaylin Stapleton, who ran 46.93. The Wildcats’ Ellika Ptacek was seventh in 49.39.

Lange earlier won the 100 hurdles and was part of the Wildcats’ 4 x 100 relay team that was just edged for the title by Leoti. The Wildcats, whose unit also included Ptacek, Jamya O’Quinn, and Ashley Holler, ran 50.63, a sliver behind the 50.57 by Leoti.

O’Quinn took fifth in the 100 in 12.81 and she still has the 200 to run. The Wildcats also have Holler still to go in the javelin and the 4 x 400 relay team.

The Wildcats, who were third in 2A last year, were in fourth after Lange’s win in the 300 hurdles. Valley Heights has virtually clinched the team title, but second is up for grabs as the Wildcats are only 10 points behind second-place Bennington and 3 1/2 behind third-place Hill City.
