WICHITA — Moundridge’s girls track and field team just missed on taking home a plaque on Saturday in the Class 2A State Meet at Cessna Stadium.
The Wildcats trailed Hill City for third place by 2 1/2 points going into the final event of the day, the 4 x 400 relay. Both schools were in the field, but Hill City took second and the Wildcats’ team of Ellika Ptacek, Ashley Holler, Jamya O’Quinn and Peri Lange took fifth in 4:15.81.
Still, the Wildcats scored 40 points to take fourth, as Valley Heights won the title with 73, while Bennington (49) and Hill City (46 1/2) finished ahead of the ‘Cats, who were third in the state last year.
Peri Lange won both the 100 and 300 hurdles, with her time of 44.82 in the 300 breaking the meet record that had stood by Tanya Drake of Wathena since 1991.
O’Quinn had a fifth in the 100 and seventh in the 200, while the 4 x 100 relay team of O’Quinn, Lange, Ptacek and Holler took second place. Ptacek had a seventh in the 300 hurdles as well.
