Shannon, Vikes shine at state

WICHITA — It was a terrific weekend for Smoky Valley sophomore running ace Calvin Shannon in the Class 4A State Track and Field Meet at Cessna Stadium.

After taking second on Friday in the 3,200, Shannon had another second on Saturday in the 1,600 by running a 4:25.83. In addition, he was fifth in the 800 in 1:59.79.

He was also part of the 4 x 800 relay team that was seventh in 8:18.76. Other members were Vins Berggren, Logan Windholz and Carter Couchman.

The Vikes’ Maggie Lambert was fourth in the 300 hurdles in 46.81. Three Viking relay teams also placed.

The 4 x 800 team was fifth in 10:03.83 and included Kate Deterding, Sophia Peterson, Katie Adam and Allison Rose.

The 4 x 100 team was sixth in 50.72, with team members Lambert, Rose, Meredith Galloway and Amanda Behann.

The 4 x 400 team was sixth in 4:09.71 and included Galloway, Deterding, Rose and Lambert.
