A month ago, Andrew Hightower was at the top of Central Christian College’s baseball pitching rotation.
Now he’ll be coaching the Tiger pitchers.
Hightower was one of two new hires announced Monday by CCC coach Derk Kremer, who also has added Daniel Thompson to his staff.
They replace the departed Jon Herbig and Thomas Kellner.
Hightower, a four-year regular for the Tiger pitching staff, logged more than 200 innings in his CCC career.
Hightower is a native of Sherman, Texas, and graduated earlier this month with a degree in sports management.
“Andrew is going to be a great asset to the coaching staff and pitching staff,” Kremer said. “His knowledge of pitching and the game of baseball has grown copiously these past four years. I look forward to having Andrew as an assistant coach and the leader of our pitching staff."
Thompson is a 2015 graduate of Mid-America Christian University and spent this past spring coaching at Carl Albert High School in Midwest City, Okla., which finished as a regional runner-up.
He started his playing career at Oklahoma City Christian University, played one year at the University of Central Oklahoma before wrapping up his final two years at Mid-America Christian, where he helped the program this past fall.
While in college, he also was an American Legion coach with the Texarkana Razorbacks of Arkansas.
“Daniel brings high school and college coaching experience to the CCC baseball program,” Kremer said. “With this experience, he is going to be a great asset to our program. He will be working with our hitters and infielders. I look forward to working alongside him as we continue to build the baseball program here at CCC."
They will both start their duties in June and immediately focus on the late recruiting period.
