SALINA — At least McPherson High’s baseball team can say it was eliminated by the eventual state champion.
MHS’ arch-rival Buhler, in its first-ever state appearance, won the Class 4A Division I state title on Monday at Dean Evans Stadium with an 8-3 win over Andover Central, which was the No. 8 seed in the tourney.
The Crusaders had advanced to state with a come-from-behind 11-9 victory over the Bullpups in the regional finals at Grant Complex.
In the championship game, Jace Williams worked the first four innings for Buhler to earn the win, with Hunter Miller throwing the final three, all scoreless frames.
Buhler advanced to the finals with a 13-3 rout of Clay Center and then outlasted league rival Rose Hill, 5-2.
The Crusaders had 13 hits in the game, 12 of them singles. They trailed 3-2 until scoring four runs in the fourth and also had a three-run sixth inning.
