McPherson’s Junior American Legion won a pair of baseball games from Newton this past weekend in decidedly different fashion.
Post 24 managed only one hit in a 4-2 victory, a single by Wyatt Seidl. However, it took advantage of walks and errors to come away with the win.
Zane Myers pitched a strong game to pick up the victory, fanning eight in six innings. Gunnar Reiss earned the save with a spotless inning of relief.
In the other game, McPherson needed only two innings to score 23 runs as again Newton pitchers had trouble finding the plate. The final was 23-7 as Reiss had four runs and four RBIs to lead the way, while Myers scored three times and drove in three.
Chandler Wiard was the winner.
McPherson is now 2-1 on the season and is scheduled to host Salina on Wednesday. First pitch at Grant Complex is 6:30 p.m.
