The Salina Mustangs scored nine runs after two were out in the fourth inning on Wednesday to spark a 21-7 victory over McPherson’s Junior American Legion at Grant Complex.
The Mustangs had scored seven runs in the first inning and at one time led 17-3 before Post 24 scored four runs in its final two at-bats.
McPherson coach Heath Gerstner employed seven pitchers in the single game, and the Mustangs had their hitting shoes on with 18 base knocks.
Trey Hanken was McPherson’s most effective pitcher of the night, allowing no earned runs in his 2 1/3 innings of work.
Jorge Hanschu had a pair of doubles and two RBIs to lead the McPherson offense. Honestee Whittker drove in two runs.
Post 24 will host a three-day tournament starting on Friday at Grant Complex. Its first action is 6 p.m. against Great Bend. McPherson then plays games at 6 and 8 p.m. on Saturday against the Topeka Scrappers and Wichita Aviators, respectively.
