JUNCTION CITY — McPherson Senior American Legion baseball coach Tony Schmidt did his best to conserve his team’s pitching on Wednesday against Junction City since it has two more games tonight.

With mainstay Jack Reifschneider now out for more than a month due to an injury suffered at football camp this past weekend, Schmidt doesn’t have quite the depth now.

Post 24 helped his dilemma by dispatching with Junction City in a pair of five-inning games, 15-2 and 11-1.

In Game 1, Post 24 roped seven doubles. Marcus McDaniel and Raine Reitsma shared the pitching duties.

McDaniel, Casen Hoover, Dylan Werries, Alex Kalkhorst, Caleb Schmidt and Jacob Loecker all had two hits.

The second game featured strong pitching from Loecker and Werries. Alex Kalkhorst was the top hitter, according to Schmidt.

McPherson, now 4-0, has no rest as it’s back in action tonight at arch-rival Salina.
