PITTSBURG — McPherson’s Jacob Lackey finished strong on Tuesday in the first round of the Kansas Junior Amateur Golf Tournament at Crestwood Country Club.

After carding a front-nine 39, Lackey was on his game for a back side of 37 to give him a 76 on the day, which ties him for 18th overall and he’s tied for ninth in the 17 division. He played his last eight holes even-par and did not have a double bogey on his card.

Salina’s Grant Herrenbruck, who won the McPherson High Invitational this spring at Turkey Creek, was the overall leader with a 2-under-par 70.

The second round is scheduled for today, after which the field is pared down for Thursday’s final round.

Hesston’s Grant Brenneman shot an opening-round 88.
